Top Docs

Top Docs - best US documentaries presented at Sundance

The best of documentaries screened at famous Sundance Film Festival will be presented to the Czech audience between September 16th and 18th, 2008 at cinema Svetozor ( the small hall and the big hall) in Prague.

Sundance Film Festival is one of the most prestigious film festivals and could be compared to the world-famous festivals such as Cannes, Venice or Berlin. Every January it takes place in Utah, USA and always draws the attention of film critics and filmmakers since it is the largest film festival of independent films in the USA. Apart from feature films, documentary films also compete for attention from jury members and the audience – to be presented at Sundance is one of the highest points in the filmmakers´ careers.

Annually One World Film Festival screens several films, which two months earlier appeared in the Sundance program. Considering the short time interval between these two festivals and the thematic specificity of One World which features human rights and social-themed documentary films, a number of great films shown at Sundance cannot be included into the One World program.

Therefore, the One World team decided to organize, together with support from the U.S. Embassy in Prague, a minifestival called TOP DOCS – best US documentaries presented at Sundance, which will enable the Czech audience to watch seven awarded and successful documentary films.
