Film and Women
One World 2005 will also tribute women filmmakers. One of the highlights of this year's program will be a retrospective of twelve films that have been selected by four prominent female filmmakers: Pirjo Honkasalo from the Finland, Barbara Kopple from USA, Kim Longinotto from the United Kingdom and Lourdes Portillo from Mexico. Each has been asked to select three films according to the following criteria: 1) one of the films should have been made pioneering female director from the ‘70s or ‘80s, 2) the second film should represent a talented young filmmaker of the next generation, and 3) the third film should be one of their own productions.
Women Make Movies
Women Make Movies was established in 1972, it is a national non-profit media organization and the largest distributor of films made exclusively by and about women. WMM's collection of more than 500 films are used by thousands of educational, community and cultural organizations annually, exhibited at film festivals worldwide and broadcast on television and cable stations in the U.S. and abroad.
WMM's Films which will be screened during the Festival are: Shinjuku Boys;
Man, When He Is a Man; Devil Never Sleeps.
