OPENING CEREMONY OF THE FESTIVAL
One World will inaugurate the festival with the film the Peacekeepers, awarded by the jury of Václav Havel

During the opening ceremony of the seventh year of the One World Festival, the Special Award for the film which has in an exceptional way contributed to the protection of human rights will be awarded. The jury under the honorable chairmanship of Václav Havel will confer this award to the Canadian film by director Paul Cowan The Peacekeepers. The jury of Václav Havel consisting of Helena Dluhošová, Šimon Pánek and Pavel Koutecký were captivated by its complex view of the activities of the UN and its peacekeeping units in the Congo, which despite the threat of an ethnic massacre the world paid only minimal attention to it because of the war in Iraq. The Award will be presented during the opening ceremony of the One World Festival on Wednesday the 27th of April in the Large Auditorium in the Municipal Library of Prague. As a part of the opening evening, there will also take place a projection of this film.
In addition to the handing out of the Special Award under the patronage of Václav Havel, awards will also be given to the creators of the winning films in the category of the Visegrad Award from the Czech Republic and Slovakia during this opening evening. The winning documentary film from the Czech Republic was the film by director Břetislav Rychlík, God's Stone Quarry about the distinctiveness of the landscape and inhabitants of Northern Bohemia. The winner from Slovakia was director Dušan Hudec for his controversial documentary film about the tragic fate of the Jewish community in Topoľčany, Love Thy Neighbour.
Entrance into the large auditorium of the Municipal Library of Prague for the opening evening is only allowed with an invitation.
