One World has gradually expanded from Prague to fourteen towns in the Czech Republic and has become one of the few festivals that places equal attention on the capital and the regional centers. This enables audiences outside Prague to have an overview of contemporary world documentary filmmaking and to learn about current trends in human rights documentaries. The number of festival attendees in the regions has doubled in the last two years, confirming the growing interest in both documentary filmmaking and social and human rights issues.

Key to the success in bringing One World to the regions is our cooperation with partner non-profit organizations, which are responsible for the local arrangements for the festival. We also have the kind support of the local authorities, and at each location the festival is held under the auspices of the town’s mayor. The heads of regional governments have also taken up patronage.

Central to our vision of One World is the effort to screen festival documentaries in as many cinemas as we can, to reach as wide an audience as possible, and to use the occasion of the screenings as an opportunity for dialogue and the exchange of ideas, experiences, and opinions. For these reasons, the festival in the regions usually involves presentations in public spaces in the centers of towns, and also includes additional cultural activities to attract people to the festival cinemas and clubs.

This year the festival offers people in the regions a number of accompanying multicultural activities. The "Journeys of the Migrants" program, organized around one of this year’s festival’s main themes- – the migration of people – will involve "ethnic nights" in each town. Not only documentaries, but also discussions, exhibitions, concerts, and the opportunity to taste traditional cuisines will help visitors achieve an understanding of the countries and regions from where people migrate. "Journeys of the Migrants" is supported by the Open Society Fund and the "Integration of Foreigners" program of the Ministry of Culture.
